Veganuary is a relatively modern phenomenon in which Veganism is celebrated and promoted throughout January. Non-Vegans are encouraged to switch up their diet for the month and many restaurants offer a bigger vegan menu for the V-Gang. January is a month for new resolutions making it an excellent time to give an alternative lifestyle a go.

Out of the plethora of street food spots in Leeds there are a few notable vendors for those wishing to locate tasty plant-based grub. The well loved Falafel Guys serve up high quality wraps on Briggate and at Assembly Underground which make an excellent Lunch. On Call Lane, Doner Summer cooks up Vegan Junk food such as burgers, kebabs and fried “Chick’n”. To pair with their expansive selections of mains they have some wicked sides and some of the best sauces in the game ensuring a flavourful experience.
Cantina at the Old Red Bus Station is another exciting kitchen serving up vegan goodies. They offer ‘Diner inspired grub’ consisting of burgers, nuggets and loaded fries. Their team of young chefs are always experimenting with new ingredients so there’s sure to be some scrumptious specials on the go throughout the month.
Well established in the north’s biggest cities, Bundobust are experts in Vegan and Vegetarian Indian street food. Their unique take on the cuisine is different from what you might expect, combining exciting flavours and serving up interesting ingredients in a small plates style. Their menu is predominantly vegan and as they were participants in Veganuary celebrations last year it’s fair to expect they’ll be joining in again this year with some special additions to the menu.
If you’re looking for vegan Indian in a more classic style, look no further than Tharavadu. Exceptional food served in a setting with elegant decor has helped it gain a reputation as one of the most revered curry houses in Leeds. They already have some exciting vegan options such as the Kadala Masala and the Paper Masala Dosa.
Another sophisticated establishment is Eat Your Greens who specialise in supplying organic produce on a plate or to buy to cook at home. Their menu always has great vegan options for lunch & dinner so it’s worth a visit all year round. Two additional dine in spots to bear in mind in Veganuary are FINT and Knaves Kitchen. Both serve up high quality cooking and have exciting vegan options for refined palates.
Wapentake on Kirkgate is a cafe, bar and sweet treat bakery combined to serve up a piece of Yorkshire to the local community. Most of the items available on the menu can be made vegan with plenty of options available and a wide variety of choices. Vegan menu items and options include their famous yorkshire pudding burger, Sunday roasts, breakfasts, smashed avocado on toast, SLT sandwich and a tasty breakfast hash.
