West Yorkshire is home to a number of great delicatessens that sell fresh, local produce along with some of the finest foods from around the world. Whether you’re planning a meal for a special occasion or just want to pick up a treat or two along with your weekly shop, here are a few of the area’s best delis to visit.

Broster’s Farm Shop, Huddersfield
This family-owned farm shop in Lindley Moor has been providing the people of Huddersfield with locally-reared meat and other fresh produce for more than 35 years. Broster’s has its own skilled butchers, who offer affordable yet high-quality cuts of beef, pork, chicken and lamb. These all come from Yorkshire farms and are fully traceable from the field to the fork. The farm shop also sells a variety of fruit and vegetables, as well as bread, pies and pastries which are baked on site each morning. If you’d like to take a break from your shopping and sample some of Broster’s delicious food in store, the shop has its own restaurant: the Graze Kitchen and Grill. This serves a wide range of homemade dishes, including cooked breakfasts, generously-filled sandwiches and favourites like burgers, crispy chicken or fish and chips. If you’d prefer a lighter afternoon pick me up, you’ll also find a tempting selection of cakes to eat here while admiring the stunning view over Calderdale.

1066 Deli & Bakery, Collingham
Situated in Collingham near Wetherby, the 1066 Deli & Bakery offers everything you might need to fill your pantry or picnic hamper. This welcoming village delicatessen carefully selects its stock to showcase tasty treats from some of the best British suppliers. These include Goodall’s dairy, Longley Farm, Setchfield butchers and Wharfe Valley Farms. You can also pick up a world-famous Cartmel sticky toffee pudding here. 1066 sells fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and cheese, along with a range of sandwiches, pies and other ready to eat snacks. You can also buy one of the deli’s scrumptious smoothies, milkshakes or hot drinks to take away.

Delioza, Leeds
Residing in a beautiful old building in the lively suburb of Chapel Allerton, this authentic Italian restaurant is owned by Tony Salaris, who was born on the island of Sardinia and raised in Verona. Tony runs Delioza with his mum, who shares his passion for traditional Italian cookery. Their inviting shop has its own restaurant, as well as a deli which sells specialities imported from suppliers back in Italy. These include salami, cured meats and a variety of delectable Italian cheeses such as tangy Taleggio, smooth Asiago and creamy Gorgonzola. You’ll also find sweet biscuits, crackers and popular Italian snacks here, all of which would make for a great gift.

Holmfirth Fresh Fish, Holmfirth
This family-run seafood business was founded in the 1980s by Edric Bowden, who would take regular trips to the Fleetwood Docks to buy fish and seafood for his family. As his friends and neighbours also began to place orders, he recognised the local demand and Holmfirth Fresh Fish was born. His shop brought the freshest, tastiest catches to this characterful Yorkshire town and it has maintained its reputation for quality to this day. The team at Holmfirth Fresh Fish are seriously knowledgeable about seafood and everything they sell comes from well-managed, sustainable sources. In more recent years, the shop has also started to offer wild game and poultry and it now has a well-stocked deli section where you’ll find seasonal local delicacies, including smoked fish, pates, marinades, soups and sauces, as well as luxury ice cream from the The Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream Company.

O’Deli, Otley
Located in the picturesque town of Otley in the heart of Wharfedale, this laid back cafe and deli is known for its great range of gluten and dairy-free products. O’Deli is run by couple Tony and Kay and was inspired by their love of quality food and great music. On the menu here, you’ll find inventive salads, wraps, sandwiches and homemade soups, which can be accompanied by a tea or coffee made with your choice of plant-based milk. Alternatively, you can opt for a glass of organic, vegan prosecco or one of the craft beers that the cafe has on tap. Next door to the deli is the O’Fresh greengrocers, which sells fresh produce from West Yorkshire farms and other local suppliers. If you don’t feel like cooking from scratch, you can also pick up healthy, ready-made meals such as stews and soups to take away and reheat for an easy dinner.

Cultures, Saltaire
This deli and draughthouse in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Saltaire specialises in all things fermented. Cultures boasts inviting decor that skillfully brings together old and new, and you can dine in its stylish taproom, which serves dishes like Polish hunter’s stew, beer and cheese soup or charcuterie boards. You can enjoy these with a craft beer or a glass of wine and Cultures’ expert staff are always happy to give advice on the best pairings. If you’re on a health kick, you’ll also find raw, live drinks from the London Fermentary here. The shop’s deli counter is full of goodies to take home after your visit, including sourdough from House of Bread and yummy plant-based cakes from Eden Pie.

Pennine Provisions, Hebden Bridge
Community-minded deli Pennine Provisions has a focus on health and wellbeing. On this little shop’s shelves, you’ll find a huge range of herbal remedies, dietary supplements and vitamins, as well as many interesting and hard to find ingredients and foods from all around the world. Pennine Provisions caters well to those following a vegan or gluten-free diet and offers many appetising alternatives such as free-from confectionery and chocolates. You can purchase all you need to fill your fridge and cupboards here, including everything from grains, pulses and dried pasta to cereal, cordials and antipasti. Pennine Provisions also sells a variety of freshly-made sandwiches to take away, which are served on traditional Yorkshire tea cakes.

George & Joseph, Chapel Allerton
This speciality cheesemongers in Chapel Allerton has won a whole host of awards. George & Joseph was founded in 2012 by turophile Stephen Fleming. Stephen had previously worked in IT but after moving to Leeds his passion for local cheese grew and his market stall became a bricks and mortar shop. George & Joseph was named as the Best Specialty Cheese Retailer at the Great British Cheese Awards in 2018. The shop helps its customers to develop their own cheese knowledge through regular events and tastings and a monthly cheese club. Among its stock, you’ll find an incredible range of cheeses from all around the world, including some of the finest produce from Bavaria, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland and Spain, as well as more Iocal offerings like EWE-MI Otley Pecorino, Hebden Goat, Harrogate Blue and Swaledale Cow PDO. You can also buy alcoholic drinks to accompany your cheeseboard, or bread from nearby bakeries such as the Leeds Bread Coop or Harrogate’s Bakeri Baltzersen.

Crust & Crumb, Leeds
