Leeds is full of so many incredible independent businesses and people, yet some of us are still unfamiliar with who they are and what they do. Some have been residents in Leeds for years while others are fairly new and became a part of the city when we were all locked away in 2021/21. So it’s time to get to know some of the people in Leeds and everything you need to know about their business. Introducing Village…
Village is a specialist bookshop and gallery offering a selection of contemporary art, design, fashion and photography publications. They also source self-published and small press zines from artists across the world. They initially started as a stall selling zines and small press publications at fairs around the north of England. They wanted to take titles by people from further afield and put them in the hands of people who wouldn’t usually come across them.
Village has been based in Thornton’s Arcade in Leeds city centre for the past 6-7 years, recently moving from their old unit into a much bigger space which is shared with Welcome. The idea is that it should appeal to anyone and everyone, they stock a wide range of titles covering all types of subject matter, from topics as niche as theory and Japanese photobooks to collectibles, rare publications and signed editions.
They have a lot of popular titles such as magazines like Apartamento, Gentlewoman, Dazed and i-D to publications by the likes of MACK, Loose Joints and Café Royal Books.
