It’s very nearly June, meaning Father’s Day is just around the corner, and with it comes the yearly panic as we try to work out what to buy for the father figures in our lives. Luckily, independent businesses right across the city are pulling out all the stops to help us celebrate the big day, all while supporting our favourite local traders.
From some incredible days out to fantastic local produce and gifts, the hardest part about this Father’s Day will be not keeping everything for yourself. So if you’re searching for the perfect prezzie, or in need of some last minute inspiration, here’s some of the very best local gifts and experiences we’ve found from right across Leeds:
Brewery Tours & Tasting Tickets
It’s no secret that Leeds is home to some of the very best craft beer breweries in the country, if not the world. So what better way to say ‘thanks’ than sending your dad to experience what goes on behind the scenes at these legendary local institutions. The people behind some of the nation’s favourite craft beers are offering up tours right across the city, and most of them include the chance to sample some of Leeds’ finest beers. Tickets range from around £10-20, which sounds like an absolute bargain to us. Some of our favourites include Northern Monk, Amity Brew, North Brewing Co. and the small but mighty Nomadic Beers!
But if beer’s not Dad’s thing, don’t despair – we’d also recommend checking out the amazing Hotham’s Gin School & Distillery experience. From learning all about the distillery process from Hotham’s experts, to creating and distilling your very own gin using your favourite botanicals, it’s a jam-packed day guaranteed to put a smile on the face of gin lovers everywhere. Grab your tickets now and enjoy a great day out with Dad – oh, and of course there’s plenty of gin tasting included!
Independent Shops & Gifts
We know a thing or two about local businesses here in Leeds, and there’s definitely no shortage of fantastic local shops and traders to explore. So if you’re looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift, why not show your support by copping some goodies from Leeds’ finest? If your dad’s a proud Yorkshireman, head down to The Great Yorkshire Shop in the Corn Exchange to grab him some local gifts, prints or homewares. For the dad’s who are passionate about their clobber, hit up The HIP Store to find cutting edge menswear and gifts. While we can’t list them all here, there are loads of places to check out, and you can find many of them in our shopping and lifestyle blogs!
Local Bottle Shops
If that’s not enough beer for you, then there are plenty of bottle shops dotted around the city stocking some of the very best brews around. Caspar’s Bottleshop in Chapel Allerton and Beer Thirty in Morley always have their shelves full of exquisitely designed cans, featuring some absolute classics as well as more experimental creations. But if you don’t know your IPAs from your sours, there’s always help on hand to pick out the perfect beer for every dad’s tastes.
Cheeseboards & Hampers
Is there a better gift than a hamper stuffed to the brim with delicious cheeses, charcuterie, and other local goodies? Seems unlikely! Luckily, that’s what some of Leeds’ finest delis and food stores are offering up this Father’s Day, and there’s plenty to choose from. Pooky’s Deli in Horsforth have put together some fantastic hampers filled with delicacies from far and wide, such as their Spanish Brindisa Collection and their locally-sourced Yorkshire Lover Hamper. Another local favourite, George & Joseph in Chapel Allerton offer a wide range of gifts for all tastes and budgets, ranging from cheese tasting selections all the way up to their huge ultimate hampers. It’s also worth popping in to see the lovely guys at Bottle Chop, always on hand to sort out a great bundle of deli treats and delicious natural wines.
Restaurant & Drinks Vouchers
If your dad knows a thing or two about food, then you can’t go wrong by gifting them a voucher to enjoy some of the very best restaurants and eateries in Leeds. All of your favourites are likely to offer up some form of voucher or gift card so that you can pass on the experience of dining in at some amazing local hotspots. Whether you decide to treat them to beer and charcuterie at Friends of Ham, Italian small plates at the inimitable Stuzzi, or authentic curries at Tharavadu or Bundobust, there’s absolutely loads to choose from. You could even throw in a voucher for one of the city’s many bars and taverns, such as the classy cocktails at the Lazy Lounge.
Experiences & Days Out
With so much going on around the city, there’s no end to the incredible days out and experiences on offer, and they often make a brilliant gift to those you love. So this Father’s Day, get out and about and enjoy something a little different, such as an adrenaline-fuelled off-roading experience hosted by Yorkshire Outdoors and Coniston Off-Road Centre, or take to the tracks at one of the local go-karting tracks, such as TeamSport or GT Karting. Or for something a little closer to home, help your dad channel their inner Viking with Whistle Punks Axe Throwing, or challenge them to a game or two at Roxy Lanes Bowling.
