The party season has arrived and its time to get dressed up and gather with friends, family or colleagues for a celebratory meal. Whether you’re looking forward to traditional roast turkey with all of the trimmings or fancy trying Indian street food with a seasonal twist, there are many great Christmas menus to discover at venues around the city. Here are the festive offerings from some of the best independent Leeds restaurants and pubs.

The Adelphi, Hunslet Road

A cosy Victorian pub with a traditional interior and roaring wood fires, The Adelphi is known for its roast dinners and real ales. This year, The Adelphi is offering a festive menu for both adults and children, with options to suit all dietary requirements. Grown-ups can dine for £26.50 for three courses and can start their meal here with dishes like panko-coated Normandy camembert. Mains include hand-carved turkey breast, bramley apple glazed pork belly or roasted pumpkin. For dessert, you can sample salted caramel profiteroles or hot apple and damson crumble. The Adelphi’s festive children’s menu costs £17.95 for three courses and features smaller versions of many dishes from the main menu, with the addition of mini cheeseburgers for pickier eaters. If you fancy eating out on Christmas Day itself, The Adelphi will be serving an extra special five course meal for £69.95 per person.

Heaney & Mill, Otley Road

Situated in bustling Headingley, Heaney & Mill is a laid back, independent restaurant that boasts MasterChef Finalist Tom Rennolds among its team of talented chefs. This year, the restaurant will be serving a three course Christmas menu at lunch and dinner from 1st-24th December. This will cost £39.95 per person and booking is essential. Guests will be able to begin their meal with enticing starters such as a king prawn thermidor tart or truffled ham hock. They can then tuck into mains like Yorkshire-reared roast turkey wrapped in Serrano ham, and other options include black treacle glazed braised cheek, pan-fried sea bass or a butternut squash and shallot tatin. Heaney & Mill’s sumptuous desserts list features the likes of warm, winter spiced chocolate brownie, salted caramel latte cheesecake or cherry, pear and almond pavlova.

Beck & Call, Stainbeck Road

Located in the village-like suburb of Chapel Allerton, Beck & Call is a welcoming, family-friendly pub that serves hearty homemade food. The pub will be offering a festive set menu from the 28th-23rd December with two courses for £22 or three for £27. You can kick off your celebratory meal here with an updated twist on classic starters like Bombay roasted butternut squash soup or smoked salmon. You can then move on to mains such as portobello mushroom and vegan haggis pithivier or grilled sea bass with crushed dill potatoes, roasted fennel and a white wine sauce. For group bookings of ten or more, Beck & Call also offers a buffet option, which costs £14.95 per person and features a whole host of tempting plates to pick and choose from, including brussel sprout bhajis, pigs in blankets, bejewelled couscous and festive sliders. While Beck & Call’s restaurant will be closed on the big day itself, the bar will remain open for those who would like to call in and celebrate with a drink.

Water Lane Boathouse, Holbeck

A stylishly renovated former shipping warehouse in Leeds’ Canal Wharf, the Water Lane Boathouse serves delicious sourdough pizzas, which are freshly made on the premises. This Christmas, the pub will be offering a festive buffet menu from the 21st December. Groups dining here can enjoy a selection of seasonal pizzas with salad and rosemary fries for £12.50 per person, or opt for the ‘Waterlane Feast’. This costs £19.95 and features all of the dishes from the pub’s Christmas menu, including homemade pork and cranberry sausage rolls, roasted vegetable tartlets, roasted camembert, a selection of meat and vegetarian sliders and pizza, all served with hand cut fries, festive salads and olives. Desserts cost £3.95 per person and you can be treated to mini Christmas pudding brownies, lemon posset or mini mince pies.

The Reliance, North Street

A modern pub with a real sense of community, The Reliance sits at the edge of Leeds city centre with views over Lovell Park. The pub serves inventive, seasonal dishes with a particularly good offering for vegans, vegetarians and those following a gluten free diet. You can have a Christmas meal here until the 23rd December with two courses for £28.50 or three for £35. Starters on The Reliance’s festive menu include beetroot, dill and lentil fritters or ham hock terrine accompanied by a cranberry chutney. For mains, you can enjoy roast pheasant with game chips, bread sauce and madeira jus, or salt baked celeriac, wild mushrooms and truffle sauce. Every main is served with a healthy portion of roast new potatoes, carrots, parsnips and sprouts.

The Lamb & Flag, Church Row

Residing in a lovingly restored 19th century building, the Lamb & Flag is a relaxed contemporary pub with a bookable snug and private terrace that’s perfect for parties. In the lead up to Christmas, the pub is serving a festive menu with three courses for £35.95 or two for £31.95. You can begin your meal with starters like chicken and smoked ham terrine or mulled wine poached pear with Yorkshire Duke of Wellington blue cheese. Mains include traditional roast turkey, roasted sea bass or beef bourguignon. To finish, you can enjoy a chocolate and orange tart with Northern Bloc vanilla ice cream and brandy snap shards or a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake accompanied by passion fruit coulis and mixed berries. The pub will also be open on Christmas Day itself, when it will be serving a celebratory menu with a glass of prosecco for £79.95 a head.

The Restaurant Bar & Grill, City Square

Located within the Old Post Office in Leeds’ City Square, the Restaurant Bar & Grill makes an impressive setting for Christmas dinner, thanks to its glitzy festive decor and all weather heated terrace. Throughout December, the restaurant will be serving its Xmas menu and you can opt for a festive feast to share or a three course dinner, for which there is a separate menu devoted to vegetarian and vegan choices. For £37.50, you can tuck into starters like spiced portobello mushrooms or fried chilli squid with thai herbs and a noodle salad. Mains include oven roast turkey, sea bass with tikka spices or slow roast crispy duck. Alternatively, for £50 per head, you can dine from a menu that’s rich in fish and seafood, with starters such as Scottish king scallops, tempura king prawns or Argyll smoked salmon. This menu features mains like Devonshire crab ravioli, tuna au poivre or a classic sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and chips.

Bundobust, Mill Hill

If you’re tired of turkey or fancy something with a little more spice than the usual Christmas fare, Indian street food restaurant Bundobust will be serving their own unique festive menu from 21st November – 31st December. A meal for two costs £33 and includes smacked khakri, bundo chaat, festive dahl and rice, chole saag and paneer tikka. An entirely vegan combo is also available for the same price and both options include the restaurant’s sprout bhajis – a scrumptious blend of crispy onion, sprouts and broccoli, flavoured with chilli and fennel and accompanied by a spiced cranberry chutney.
