Pizza Freak is the Leeds hub for American style pizza. The Kirkstall Road restaurant is renowned for their iconic Detroit style pizza made up of a thick rectangular base topped with a herby house-made tomato sauce and a crunchy Frico cheese. Everything is made in house using the finest ingredients like Italian 00 flour and malt.

After starting as a lockdown pop-up the store has moved from strength to strength and gained some well deserved notoriety in the Leeds food scene.

The menu is full of unique pizza combinations: ‘The Intern’ is made with a delicious bianca base, Mozzarella, Havarti, Dolcelatte, Pecorino Romano and drizzled with Bee Sting Hot Honey. Pizza Freak also has a range of specialist pizzas such as ‘Vegan Garden’ which is smothered in a rich, warming tomato sauce, topped with fresh olives, sun-blushed tomatoes and mushrooms that are so tasty you wouldn’t even notice there was no cheese.

Pizza Freak definitely doesn’t do anything halfway! The diverse sides menu promises big flavours in small portions, try doughy garlic knots, k-pop hot meatballs, freak fries with pecorino romano or good old naked fries and more.

All food is available on deliveroo, just eat and uber eats but the experience is better inside. It is a dimly lit but colourful venue decorated with American-esque decor, one wall is covered with graphic skateboards and another with artsy cans of locally brewed beer. The vibe is bright, modern and edgy. Although a small amount of covers the cosy space makes it perfect for an intimate night with family, a date night or a casual catch up with friends. Plus with an open kitchen you’re welcomed by the familiar scent of homemade pizza.

Northern Monk, Amity Brewing and North Brewing all supply local beers to pair perfectly with a slice or two. Kirkstall Brewery IPA is also a not-so-secret ingredient in the ‘Don’t Tell Silvio Pizza’ topped with ham hock that has been delicately slow-cooked in the beer.
