In Harehills, an Indian eatery has been serving the suburb with the traditional cuisine of their homeland for 25 years. Having rightly earned a reputation for fabulous flavourful food at purse pleasing prices, Anand Sweets have gained a loyal local following which has grown throughout Leeds, and now expands to Hyde Park where a second Anand Sweets opened last year. We’re using it as an excuse to eat at Anand Sweets twice as much!

As Anand Sweets has become a Harehills staple, it is being welcomed to Hyde Park in the same warm way that Anand Sweets invites all-comers to its restaurants. The atmosphere is homely and cosy, friendly and inclusive. It is a collection of cultures, from Leeds folk smitten with this taste of India to an Indian community enjoying the finest familiar flavours.

The menu is packed with homemade high quality dishes that are full of comfort and joy. Their samosas are a thing of legend, bursting with spices and so addictive you could pile them high and tuck in. But be careful to leave room for other awesomeness…

There’s shahi paneer, an Indian cheese in a seasoned gravy which is beautifully flavoured but not too spicy; there’s bhatura, an inflated and fried bread that comes with a delicious chickpea curry; many people come here especially for the parathas, a flour dough with a filling in between which tastes like home; and particularly popular is the thali of the day, which treats you to two curries, two sides, two breads and rice. Oh, and we haven’t even mentioned that it’s all vegetarian and plenty vegan, in such a way that meat eaters won’t miss it.

If you live in Harehills, you probably don’t need us to tell you. And if you live in Hyde Park then you’ve probably discovered your new foodie favourite by now. But for anyone unaware of the charms of Anand Sweets, whether you live elsewhere in Leeds or are visiting the city, go; it’s that rare gem we’re always looking for – an authentic eatery serving expert home cooked food with passion and love.
