The 1920s roar back to life in Northern Ballet’s sell-out smash.

Leeds’ very own, Northern Ballet returns to the Grand to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their acclaimed production of The Great Gatsby this March.

As the infamous Long Island mansion buzzes with the young, rich, and beautiful through the day and well into the night, a tragedy begins to unfold. It is home, of course, to none other than Jay Gatsby. Hidden behind his glitzy parties with glamour, romance and flowing champagne lies a story which will only end in jealousy and misfortune.

In Prohibition-era New York, everyone has something to hide…

Set in New York, we see the retelling of a classic story of romance and devastation which unfolds between Gatsby and Daisy. A chain of events leading to jealousy, heartbreak, betrayal and revenge.

It’s the party to end all parties – one you definitely do not want to miss.

Initially premiered in 2013, Northern Ballet’s The Great Gatsby has seen four successful UK tours placing the production among the Company’s most popular shows. Audiences continue to be impressed by the glitz and glamour of this reimagination of a timeless classic.

Northern Ballet’s stage adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great American novel is lifted from page to stage by choreography, direction, and costume design from Northern Ballet’s Former Artistic Director, David Nixon CBE.

The Great Gatsby earned Nixon a nomination for Best Classical Choreography in the 2014 National Dance Awards. His direction, choreography, and costume design is accompanied by the cinematic score of Oscar-nominated composer Sir Richard Rodney Bennett CBE, Jérôme Kaplan with his lavish sets, and Tim Mitchell designing the lighting.

The Chanel-inspired costume designs have been created by Northern Ballet’s talented in-house wardrobe department and will send you back in time to the flapper era with suits and dresses that are sure to make you swoon.

The unique blend of strong classical technique and impressive storytelling is a bold and innovative approach from the company. Northern Ballet pushes the boundaries of storytelling through dance, embracing popular culture and taking inspiration from literature, legend, and the classics. They are champions of the cultural exports of the North, Leeds’ very own ballet company place importance on sharing ballet with as many people and places as possible.

Northern Ballet will take to the stage at the Grand for its opening on Wednesday 8th – Saturday 18th March before moving on to Sheffield and then London.
