Have you ever spent a day out in the beautiful village of Haworth? On a hill in Yorkshire, Haworth is tucked away amid the breath-taking South Pennines. It’s hardly surprising that the location was home to the Bronte sisters, the most famous female authors in British history. The village is filled with attractions perfect for a family day out to explore all the quirky shops, cafés, restaurants, and of course, the views.

Attractions

Haworth is well known for its historic attractions. Many visitors of the village stop by Bronte Parsonage Museum, one of the oldest literary societies in the world. The museum library includes the most complete collection of Bronte letters, manuscripts, first printings of the books and poems, and other information about the well-known family and their work. With running heritage steam and diesel trains from the industrialised landscape of Keighley to the Bronte Country, you and your family could either pre-book, or turn up and buy at Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. The Railway is famous for its film role in The Railway Children, making it an exciting attraction to attend. 

There are also many scenic walks in Haworth, perfect for a day out. Take a walk along Bronte Waterfall to appreciate the nature in this beautiful village, or there is also Top Withens, Bronte Bridge, or even simply a walk down Haworth Main Street would satisfy your scenic needs with their cobbled streets and stunning views.

Cafes

After going on a walk around the village, or even doing some (or a lot) of shopping, you may get hungry. Luckily, Haworth is rich in cafes. Haworth’s creative café, Cobbles and Clay is open every day offering soup or a sandwich, as well as a collection of pottery and even offers creative workshops on an evening. Hunters of Haworth is also a great choice, with a passion for sharing amazing food, Nick and Simona have a commitment to local producers, making their pies and flavour combinations extraordinary.! Providing gluten free options is Café Verde, a beautiful café located just next to The Cabinet of Curiosities. They’re well known for their delicious scones served with clotted cream and jam. This café is also dog friendly so make sure to bring your furry friends along. 

Restaurants

The Hawthorn is a charming Georgian jewel in the centre of Haworth, full of original features and providing a comfortable setting to unwind with friends and family. So if you’re up for a delicious Sunday roast, this is the place to go. The Treehouse Bar & Kitchen is a new and exciting venue which offers cocktails, handmade pizza from their oven, as well as Sunday roasts, burgers, and kebabs. There is something for everyone’s taste, and the food is served in a homely, relaxed area, decorated with greenery. 

If you love charcuterie and bistro food, Pave is the place to be. With their French inspired menus including cheese boards, French onion soup, and baguettes, it’s perfect for people passionate about food. Last but definitely not least, is Cloth Store. Serving Tacos and Tequila, you’re certainly in for a good time. It’s only £7 for two tacos, or if you’re into wings, they serve habanero, sticky chipotle or hot honey and mustard flavoured wings/ This gem also offers loaded nachos and fries and is an ideal place to come and share dishes with friends or family.

Bars and Pubs

In a beautiful village like Haworth, good bars and pubs are a necessity. Tap & Tonic has over 80 cocktails to choose from! They offer signature cocktail creations and seasonal menu changes too. Tap & Tonic also offer a Gin Traditional Afternoon Tea, which consists of a double gin and mixer of your choice served in a glass teapot, finger sandwiches, scones and pastries. The Black Bull is also a great contender. This pub is linked to the Bronte sister’s only brother, Branwell who attended the inn regularly, making this pub perfect for historians. 

At Haworth Steam Brewing Co, head brewer Andy Gascoigne’s traditional Yorkshire steam brewed beers are a straightforward creation. He delivers a variety of well-balanced, hand-crafted brews, from Yorkshire. This is a great place to drink some local home brewed beers and maybe even try some of their skewers or curries (if you want to really embrace yourself in Yorkshire’s delicacies).

Shops

The quirky shops in Haworth are great additions to the tourist attractions of the hilltop village. On the main street you will find many of these, such as Cabinet of Curiosities, Modo & Co, Pretty Penny and Wave of Nostalgia. Cabinet of Curiosities offers both witchery and literary books, botanical candles and bath salts, and much more. If you want your home to smell like Christmas this winter, you should certainly make a visit. Modo & Co are a small team of designers and makers who use products from a circular economy, making it sustainable. They create wooden painted signs, wooden name keepsake boxes and Nordic folk Christmas stockings, just to name a few! Pretty Penny is a boutique home and fashion gift shop which supports local manufacturers. They sell candles, children’s clothes and even wedding bouquets and many little gifts that are perfect for stocking fillers. 

Events

There is always something fun to do in Haworth thanks to its fantastic annual events schedule. Take a trip down memory lane during the May 1940s weekend and June 1960s weekend. The Steampunk Weekend, which takes place in the autumn and transforms Main Street into the Industrial Revolution, is returning. Numerous tourists visit Haworth for Christmas every year and take advantage of a full programme of festivities beginning in early December. There are also reoccurring craft fairs which allow local businesses to showcase their amazing and unique products. The Black Bull also regularly have live music in their pub, so you can grab a pint, some food, and listen to some great live music!
