And in true style like Rolands and Domino, they will also be serving up hand crafted cocktails during the day like the Garibaldi, an Italian breakfast cocktail – it’s a little less boozy so it doesn’t ruin your afternoon!
As we switch into the night, the food becomes more tapas styled nibbles and small plates to accompany the drinks as apposed to a restaurant, so don’t be confused. This draws on inspiration from Matt’s (of the owners) living in Spain, where he was having a glass of wine with something small and tasty. The small plates are £4 each or 3 for £10, and they come out when they are ready. The Vanguard is definitely the place to share little plates with your friends over a bottle of wine or a cocktail!
Back to the drinks, where there is a wine selection of over 30 bottles and more “grown up” cocktails in the evening. Much like Domino and Rolands they will offer a personalised service but in a similar styled casual and welcoming environment. Their Pisco Sour cocktail is made with fennel syrup for a sophisticated twist, and their Espresso Martinis are the best in Leeds, only after Rolands of course…
The team chose their spot on Duncan Street as they fell in love with the building, in particular the 3 huge floors above that are currently unused. The Vanguard had plans to develop them into 6 hotel suites, all fitted out to the highest standards and decor that like downstairs, is timeless and considered. This amazing cafe and bar is just stage one of The Vanguard, we’re excited to see what is next to come….
