Temple Newsam is a stunning estate with a country house, traditional working farm and beautiful landscaped parkland.

The 500-year-old mansion was home to colourful characters, from the notorious Lord Darnley to Georgian beauty Lady Isabella Hertford. Their legacy is visible within the eclectic décor and architecture, furniture, silver and ceramic collections, which provide a feast for the eyes.

Roam the 1,500 acres of scenic parkland and explore the house from rooftop to cellar on tours. The lakeside gardens offer a relaxing picnic spot, alongside striking seasonal displays in the hot houses and Georgian walled garden. Popular with families, the farm is one of the largest rare breed centres in Europe.

Temple Newsam is one of the finest historic houses in the region, with a rich history of links to royalty through plots and intrigue. Explore over 40 rooms of treasures, with Chippendale furniture, silver, ceramics, fine art, and wallpaper. Uncover the stories of the people who lived here, including the notorious Lord Darnley and how generations of one family developed the house over 300 years.

Until 27 October 2018, discover the history of beer in our new exhibition, Beer! A history of brewing and drinking. Uncover life on Temple Newsam Estate through the eyes of the people who lived, worked, brewed and drank here. We’re running talks, events and demonstrations, including a newly commissioned beer for Temple Newsam.

Our award winning rare breed conservation farm is one of the best-loved family attractions in Leeds. Come face-to-face with a variety of farm animals and get hands on with the piglets, chickens and geese running free in the yard! Stroll along our historic cobbled yards, explore traditional buildings and experience the sights and sounds of recreated workshops ? including the timber yard and sawmill.

Find countryside tranquillity in the city. At Temple Newsam you can roam over 1,500 acres of stunning woodland, parkland and gardens landscaped by the famous 18th century gardener Capability Brown. Enjoy a picnic in the lakeside gardens, or the scent of roses in the romantic Georgian walled garden.
