Paper Screen Printing – 2 Day Course

2 DAY COURSE MONDAY 29th & TUESDAY 30th OCTOBER 2018 11am - 4pm Learn and explore the basics of screen printing. This two day course will teach you the fundamentals of screen printing onto paper, introduce you to the equipment and develop your confidence as an independent screen printer. You will learn how to register and layer your designs, and print with multiple colours. By the end of the course, you will be able to use various stencil making techniques and understand their effects. You will gain an understanding of the photo stencil emulsion technique and will learn how to coat and expose screens. Your tutor will also introduce you to relevant contextual artists and screen printing terminology.

Simeon Barclay in his first institutional solo exhibition in the North of England, will present a new body of work informed by research into dance. From the visual spectacle of contemporary dance theatre to the communal experience of the night club dance floor, the exhibition Bus2move will manifest as a series of sculptural installations combining costume, film and video, photography, lighting and sound. Barclay’s interest in dance and its many facets centres on the construction of masculinity, with particular focus on the way popular perceptions and stereotypes become defined, contested and encoded upon the dancing male body.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bradford-born, innovative abstract painter’s death, we will be showing all of the Francis Butterfield work in our collection in this revelatory exhibition. The display will include the very first abstract work to enter the Leeds collection in 1937, Figure Derivation. Watercolours and drawings which have not been exhibited before will be on display, along with recently discovered and previously unseen material from a private collection.
