Lockdown shopping with the Local Survival Guide
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, everybody’s lives have been affected. For lots of independent businesses, their livelihoods have changed unrecognisably. In response, many of them are showing a remarkable resilience and impressive inventiveness to find ways to interact with their customers and continue providing services which remain in demand.
At IL, our direction was changed too. We were in the process of putting together our Spring magazine and planning the new Little Black Book, our extensive guide to this city and the amazing independents that thrive here. But as people were told to stay home to stay safe, venues began to close and events were forced to cancel; the landscape had changed for everyone.
Both IL magazine and the Little Black Book will eventually be released as a celebration after we all step back out to the streets and into the cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs, shops, galleries, museums and events. In the meantime, we wanted to come up with something similar to support the same local businesses through these temporary times and help customers to connect with them.
And so here it is: the Local Survival Guide is an online resource designed to showcase the fantastic local gems on your doorstep and how to transact with them from a distance. We have gathered information on hundreds of independents in Leeds city centre and its surrounding suburbs and towns – from Otley to Headingley, Meanwood to Morley, and everywhere in between – to present what they are offering during this time and how their products and services can be accessed.
To navigate the Local Survival Guide, you can search for your chosen business, or browse through the categories of shopping, lifestyle, food and drink. From there, you will discover what is available and how you can SHOP NOW, CALL or VISIT. We also encourage you to stay up to date by following independents on social media and sharing your isolation heroes to spread the love!
